These are some of the thoughts I have in my head while reading this book.
The story revolves around Pablo, a hardworking, upstanding police officer living a quiet and satisfactory life, proud of his successful career and marriage. This is true until one incident sends every part of his treasured life, career and marriage come crashing down.
BOOK DESCRIPTION / BLURB:
Pablo is a hardworking, upstanding police officer, proud of his long marriage and lovely family. Through decades of quiet dedication and single-minded devotion, he has achieved the successes one strives for in life, both with his family and career. Close to retirement and to sitting back and enjoying the fruits of a successful career and marriage, a malicious spurious complaint at work should have no material consequences on his life, but it starts a domino effect, and before long he finds himself shockingly dismissed, divorced, without a home, and with a criminal record.
This story explores a convoluted tragic journey of divorce, rich with emotion, loss, betrayal, revenge, and confusion. Along the way, it explores the dynamics of what makes a relationship weak and vulnerable, or strong and resolute. Itβs not a miserable story, but one of resilience, hope, and true love. It is told with an immense depth of feeling, insight, humour, and faith, and there are many truly surprising twists and turns as the story unfolds.Β

To all these questions, I personally have no answer. Because there is no definite answer to situations like these. Every experience is different. We don’t make promises and expect to break them. We make promises because, at that time, we mean it. And at that time, we believe that we’re not gonna break it.
Again, I believe that there is no definite answer but I think Pablo’s story gives one feasible answer to these questions.
I like that Pablo’s character is not perfect, he has flaws. He’s human after all. Acts as to what he thinks and feels is right. Honestly, there were times while reading this book that I was pissed at him, pissed at his decisions and actions but there are also times when I rooted and cheered for him.
I admired Pablo’s resilience, faith, and hope despite everything he’s been through. I was heartbroken multiple times for the guy. But I think, one should also know when enough is enough. Life indeed is unpredictable and may not always go the way we want it.
“Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, and penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope”
Favorite quote from the book. Chapter 26.
Overall, I’m all in for this book. I liked that the story was narrated in such a way that made me think and read between the lines. Also, how real and fragile the characters were written. I was on a rollercoaster of emotions, as this book has impressively managed to play with me, both emotionally and psychologically. In addition, the twists that I was unprepared for bit me from behind. This is a story of unconditional love, hope, resilience, and faith amidst life’s tragic challenges. Almost or borderline thriller and definitely a book I’ll recommend.
